Kanturk U21 hurlers were taken to extra time before getting the better of Dr O'Callaghans in round 2 of the Duhallow Championship at Banteer on Tuesday 24th July. Indeed the teams were level on over 7 occassions during the game and there was never more than 3 points between the sides at any stage throughout the 80 minutes. When one side got on top and went three points up and you felt the game was going their way, the other side responded in style picking off vital points to bring the game back into the melting pot. At the end of normal time the score was 16 points each. When Dr O' Callaghan's goaled in the first period of extra time, it looked to be a vital score until Kanturk responded with a similar score and the sides were level 1-17 each after the first period of extra time. Kanturk found the extra gear to point their way to victory in the second period of extra time on a 1-20 to 1-18 score line. Kanturk now go on to meet St Marks at Meelin in Round 3 on Tuesday next 31st July 7.30pm with a semi final place up for grabs.
