The National John West Feile Peil, U14 football festival was held in Kerry, North Cork & West Limerick over the weekend of 24/25/26th June. Kanturk played its part in hosting Coralstown-Kinnegad (Westmeath) in the boys competition and travelled to Kilshannig on Friday 24th June and defeated the home team by 2-09 to 1-04 and had to come from behind to draw with Boyle (Roscommon) 1-06 each. On Saturday morning 25th June, Kanturk drew with their visitors, Coralstown-Kinnigad on a 2-06 score line each. As Kanturk and Boyle topped the group, both moved forward into the Division 3 Cup quarter finals while Coralstown-Kinnigad and Kilshannig went into the shield competition.
Played at Dromcollogher, Kanturk lost out to a bigger and physically stronger South London tie, 0-1 to 4-5 and the overseas team went on to win the competition taking the cup for the fourth time.
In the Shield competition, our visitors, Coralstown-Kinnigad went on to defeat Castlegregory(Kerry) in the final by 1-4 to 1-2 and return home late on Sunday night to a hero's welcome.
On Friday night 24th June, Kanturk ladies football hosted a BBQ at Kanturk GAA grounds for both boys and girls teams along with their visitors from Sligo & Westmeath. Them on Saturday evening (25th June) Kanturk hosted one of the regional parades with over 30 teams parading through the town from the Banteer road through Strand St, O'Brien St and onto the Kanturk Town park where an open air disco was held with plenty food available from local vendors. It was a culmination of a great weekend with many new friendships forged with our visiting teams.
