Kanturk Intermediate footballers hit the Cork county championship trail on Wednesday 6th May with an appealing first round tie against Ballydesmond at Newmarket with a 7pm start. Since the championship draws were made last December, all eyes were focused on this Duhallow derby and the game is sure to draw a large attendance. Both teams made their championship exit at the 4th round last year with Kanturk going down to Fermoy while Ballydesmond took Mayfield to a replay before exiting the competition.
Kanyturk have made a bright start to this years league, winning all five games played to date, while Ballydesmond are also showing good league form.
Cork senior football star, Donnacha O' Connor will spearhead the Ballydesmond challenge and while Kanturk will be handicapped by the lack of football played by their inter county hurling trio, they will hope the likes of Aidan Walsh and Lorcain Mc Loughlin can signpost the way to victory. If the game ends level, extra time will be played and the prize for the losers is a round 2 tie against Millstreet while the victors gain passage into round 4.
