Intermediate Footballers get off to winning start

Kanturk Intermediate footballers, making the step up from Junior level having won last years County Junior football title made a winning start in their opening championship tie against Castletownbere at Ballingeary on Sunday last 13th May. Undoubtedly Kanturk faced stiff opposition as Castletownbere were defeated in last years Intermediate championship decider.
Kanturk had the advantage of a stiff breeze in the opening half and failed to make use of the conditions until the 24th minute when a long delivery by Lorcain Mc Loughlin found Anthony Nash and the kanturk sharp shooter capatilized scoring a decisive goal for the Duhallow men. On the resumption Castletownbere worked the ball down the field and had the ball in the Kanturk net but the score didnt stand as the referree called the play back having blown for a free in before the goal was scored. This was a let off for Kanturk and they went in at the break level on a 1-3 to 0-6 score line. On the resumption Kanturk began to take a hold of the game and found teir scoring boots rattling off 4 points from play during the half and were safely into round four of the championship when Castletownbere got their only score, a point in injury time. The final score was Kanturk 1-07 Castletownbere 0-07.
