When Kanturk led by 0-07 to 0-02 after 15 minutes of the opening half of their Premier Intermediate Hurling relegation play off against Tracton played at Mourneabbey on Friday 26th August, they looked like they would be comfortable winners but a combination of poor shooting and the Tracton goalkeeper bringing off numerous fine saves, let the door open for the Carrighdhoun side to spring a surprise with the half time score 0-9 to 0-6 in Kanturk's favour. Tracton opemed the second half in a determined fashion and were level after five minutes play but Kanturk reasserted themselves and built up a three point lead once again only to be rocked by a Tracton goal entering the closing stages which left the Carrighdhoun side 2 points to the good.
Kanturk showed their battling qualities as they scored five points without reply to win the tie on a 0-20 to 1-14 score line.
