For the second time in three years, Kanturk defeated Youghal by the minimum to progress in the Cork Intermediate football championship.
Ballyhooley housed the Kanturk/youghal 4th round tie on Saturday 15th August and conceding two first half goals had Kanturk on the back foot but improved play in the closing ten minutes of the opening half let the East Cork side only 2-03 to 0-07 in front. The wide count in the opening half of Kanturk 8 to Youghal nil showed the wasted opportunities by out team.
A Kanturk goal from a penalty ten minutes into the second half put them 1-08 to 2-4 in front. A Youghal goal with eleven minutes left for play gave them the edge, on a 1-09 to 3-06 score line and insure a tense closing ten minutes. As events unfolded, Youghal failed to score again and a point from Kanturk's second penalty of the game on 64 minutes gave them a one point victory on a 1-13 to 3-6 score line.
