Having suffered a heart breaking defeat to Kilworth 12 months earlier, Kanturk were determined to leave no stone unturned in their quest to climb the championship holy grail at Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Sunday 3rd November. Cork senior star, Lorcain Mac Loughlin spearheaded the Kanturk assault as they raced into an early 5point to 0-1 lead. When Kanturk goaled through Alan O' Keeffe, it gave Kanturk a 1-12 to 0-07 interval lead. The expected Eire Og revival never materialised as Kanturk piled on the scores in the second half and Kanturk capped a virtuoso display when full back Donagh Duane pointed towards the end as Kanturk ran out 2-22 to 1-12 winners and team captain, Anthony Nash accepted the county championship cup from Cork County Board Chairman, Bob Ryan to great excitement and applause from the Kanturk supporters in the attendance of over 11,000 on Cork county hurling finals day.
