After being fined €100 by the Duhallow GAA board for not fielding in the opening round of the U21 football championship against Millstreet, Kanturk were allowed continue in the championship via the back door and travelled to Knocknagree to face the home side on Saturday 25th February.
Kanturk raced into a 0-3 to nil lead before Knocknagree goaled after 8 minutes to level the tie. A knanturk goal after 19 minutes gave them a 1-04 to 1-02 lead and over the remaining eleven minutes the sides were level twice as the lead changed hands before the boarder county side held a 2-06 to Kanturk's 1-8 interval lead.
Kanturk levelled the scores early in the second half before a Knocknagree goal was replied to with a similar score instantly by Kanturk to leave the score Kanturk 2-09 Knocknagree 3-6 after 40 minutes. It really was a titanic struggle as the sides were level on four occasions over the half before Knocknagree took the spoils with a late late point deep into injury time and Kanturk lost out on the minimum on a 2-12 to 3-10 score line.
